The Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programmes aim to prepare university graduates to become primary, secondary school and junior college teachers. The pre-service teachers in the PGDE (Primary) and PGDE (Secondary) programmes will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to teach one to two school subjects, whilst the pre-service teachers in the PGDE (Junior College) programme will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to teach one subject at the JC level and one subject at the Secondary school level. Except for Economics and General Paper, the junior college teaching subject and its paired secondary level teaching subject are related.
The PGDE programmes have the following tracks, of differing durations:
● Primary (general)
● Primary single-subject specialization (e.g Art, Music, Mother tongue)
● Primary (Physical Education)
● Junior College
The PGDE(Pri PE) is a two-year programme. All others are 1-year for the July 2016 intake (last run) and 16-months from December (2016 onwards).
The Asst Dean for Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Asst D/PGDE) oversees implementation of the PGDE programme and the academic advicement of student teachers within the programmes.
